THE MEANING OF THE BLUES

music - Bobby Troup, lyrics - Leah Worth

Perk told me these recordings, which were made in 1998, ‘99, and 2000, represented the best playing he ever did on record. And here's a link to a wonderful interview with my beloved late friend, at jazzprofessional.com.

Marc Lewis is on trumpet…and the rhythm section is Larry Koonse on guitar, Tom Warrington on bass, and Joe LaBarbera on drums. Pianist Lou Levy, in his final recording session, played on several other tracks, as did cellist and pianist Fred Katz, the late valve trombonist Bob Enevoldsen…and trumpeter Buddy Childers, making a rare vocal appearance!  Recorded and mixed by Gary Denton at Stagg Street Studio, in Van Nuys, California, with additional mixing by Joe DiGeorgi at Headline Sound in Irvington, New York.
